Brake safety is critical every day your truck hits the road, but the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) focuses on brake inspections twice a year as part of its Operation Airbrake program. Operation Airbrake is a comprehensive program dedicated to improving commercial vehicle brake safety throughout North America.

Brake Safety Week, August 23-29, 2020

A one-day brake safety enforcement initiative will be held on an unannounced date during the 2020 calendar year

During both initiatives, inspectors will conduct brake system inspections (primarily Level IV Inspections) on large trucks and buses throughout North America to identify out-of-adjustment brakes and brake-system violations. Trucks and buses with poorly maintained and improperly installed brakes and brake systems pose a serious risk to drivers and public safety.

DID YOU KNOW THAT HALF OF ALL OUT-OF-SERVICE VIOLATIONS ISSUED FOR COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLES ON THE ROAD ARE FOR OUT-OF-ADJUSTMENT BRAKES AND BRAKE-SYSTEM VIOLATIONS?

These out-of-service violations can be easily avoided by maintaining a comprehensive preventative maintenance schedule. Delaying what can be a $25 brake job isn’t worth costing your fleet:

Average miles traveled per hour: 50 miles

Average revenue per mile: $2.00

Average revenue per hour: $100.00

A truck is typically out-of-service for 4 hours due to brake violations, which adds up to $400 per truck! Brake related downtime overall, has an $83M impact on the trucking industry*.
